A Smoky Mountain vacation is an event that brings a multitude
of satisfying holiday memories for young and old alike.
Who wouldn't enjoy a vacation in this idyllic part of
the country? The region is filled with a wide variety
of recreation forms (both indoor and outdoor) and offers
tremendous, panoramic vistas of the surrounding Appalachian
hills. The Smoky Mountains region is a stunning holiday
destination no matter what time of year your Tennessee
retreat takes place. The Great Smoky Mountains National
Park is a jewel of Appalachian charm that offers unique
experiences in each season of the year. And Pigeon Forge,
Gatlinburg and Sevierville offer events throughout the
various seasons of the year- designed to make every month
a special time to enjoy a Smoky Mountain escape.
The
month of February is certainly no exception to this rule.
Not only are there numerous, exciting events taking place
in around the cities of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and
Sevierville (in addition to well-known theme parks, museums,
live theatres, and other recreational attractions that
run 365 days a year), but the stunning Smoky Mountains
begin their amazing springtime transformation in late
February. Almost overnight the surrounding Smoky Mountains
go from wintry reclusion to full-fledged springtime bloom.
This transformation is certainly quite something to behold!
Late winter/early spring is the perfect time to head to
East Tennessee because you won't find another season that
matches the freshness of this time of year.
Thrilling
and entertaining Smoky Mountain attractions such as Dollywood,
the Ripley's Believe-it-or-not Museum, the Smoky Mountain
Jamboree, the Grand Illusions Show, the Guinness World
of Records, the Governor's Palace, and the Tennessee Museum
of Aviation all have shows, events, and performances going
on during February. In addition Pigeon Forge, Sevierville,
and Gatlinburg also have a number of special seasonal
festivals and events taking place as well. Of course,
the most famous of these is the area-wide Smoky Mountain
Winterfest festival. This celebrated East Tennessee event
runs until March 1st and sees all three Smoky Mountain
cities lit up in millions of dazzling lights. The Winterfest
festival also includes numerous special events and theatre
presentations that co-inside with the theme of the festival.
The Winterfest Trolley Tour of Lights makes for a great
way for Smoky Mountain vacationers to take in all the
brilliant displays.
As exciting and entertaining as the Smoky Mountain Winterfest festival is, it is just one of many sensational events and presentations taking place in and around Gatlinburg, Sevierville, and Pigeon Forge during the month of February. Other area events include: the 15th Annual Smoky Mountains Storytelling Festival, the Gatlinburg Special Olympics, the 6th Annual Saddle Up! Celebration, and the18th Smoky Mountain Home Show. The Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort has numerous events and activities available during the month of February as well. These include the Gatlinburg Night Magic Skiing and the Southern Exposure 5 Skiing and Snowboarding Competition.
It's clear that in terms of making a vacation escape to
the spectacular Smoky Mountains region of East Tennessee
that February is as good a time as any to do so. Local
Tennessee cities like Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville
feature entertaining and educational attractions that
run on a year-round basis. February is a great time to
enjoy these attractions because the crowds are a little
thinner this time of year. That same travel wisdom also
goes for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. February
is the perfect time of year to enjoy leisurely, meandering
strolls along various mountain trails and to cruise in
your car along routes such as the Newfound Gap Road.
